Community Involvement

Grey County Master Gardeners actively engage with local community partners to promote gardening knowledge and sustainable practices.

Our initiatives aim to enhance a science-based understanding of horticulture while fostering a sense of environmental stewardship in the community we live and serve. We are passionate educators of all ages and levels of home gardener.

Partnerships

Grey County Master Gardeners are actively engaged within the community. Here are some current projects we are working on in 2025 alongside our partner community organizations.

Dates and locations can be viewed in the events calendar (click here).

Gardener In Residence

The Gardener in Residence is an outreach program hosted in partnership with participating Public Libraries in the Grey-Bruce region. Once a month, a Grey County Master Gardener provides a short presentation on a gardening topic and holds an open advice clinic to answer horticultural questions from the community. These sessions are open to everyone and often include practical activities or demonstrations to complement the educational topic that month.

Grown In Grey

This popular annual event is hosted in Desboro for grade 5 students across the region to be exposed to agricultural topics. The Grey County Master Gardener’s booth is intended to help students understand more about where their food comes from and the part of the plant that we use and eat. The interactive set-up allows students to see and handle a variety of plant-based food items and answer trivia questions.

Bruce Grey Forest Festival

The Bruce Grey Forest Festival is an annual 3-day event in early October that is hosted by a collection of local Conservation Authorities and community partners. The goal is to educate grade 7 students across the region about sustainable forest management and biodiversity. The Grey County Master Gardeners education station focuses on the variety of edible plants found in our local ecosystems.
